Public WiFi and WiFi Printer

Carver Memorial Library is pleased to offer free public, walk-in WiFi access. Users connect in the same manner as in other public wireless hotspot. Our network is called “CML”. There is no password. Users should be able to just select “CML” and connect.
Note that the connection is not encrypted. It should be considered insecure, insofar as it would not be hard for someone to “eavesdrop”, if they know what they were doing.
Note, however, that most reputable web sites impose browser-to-server encryption when financial or other sensitive transactions are being conducted. If your web browser software is up to date, it should be able to support such security measures and protect transactions, even within a public, unencrypted environment like ours.
That being said, and given the nature of the technology, the library cannot assume any responsibility for the security of your communications.
How to Connect to the Wireless Printer
The first time you use the wireless printer with a laptop, you will need to go through a configuration step. Thereafter, the printer will appear on the list of printers you see in your computer’s normal printer dialog. The configuration procedure varies with the type of computing device you are using. (Note that the Library's laptops are already configured to use the wireless printer.)
Windows 7
Macbook Air
Linux (Ubuntu 11.4)
Other Wireless Devices
Most wifi-enabled devices have a means of linking to a wireless printer. Our printer will work with most of them. However, not all devices are compatible with all printers. As we have the opportunity to test additional devices we will expand and refine these instructions.
For Android devices, install the Brother iPrint&Scan app. You will need to be connected to our network in order to print.
Beyond the procedures described above, users of such devices are on their own to puzzle out the particular procedures required to make their equipment work with the wireless printer. We will try to help if asked, but cannot guarantee success in all cases.
